How the quiz works
A practical race short-list builder for Boston qualifying attempts
The Find My Race quiz narrows the BMQR directory by the factors most runners use when choosing a qualifier: season, travel region, course profile, and whether the priority is a verified BQ-rate signal where BMQR has complete provenance, a flatter course category, or the next upcoming race date. It is designed for runners who already know they want a certified marathon but need help turning hundreds of listings into a manageable short list.
Results never infer better odds from unverified historical BQ percentages. If verified BQ-rate coverage is not available for a matching race, the quiz keeps the filters you chose and falls back to event-date order. A match does not guarantee a qualifier.
Use the quiz as a first filter, then open the race pages that look promising. Before registering, check the official race site for the current date, course certification, registration status, start logistics, elevation profile, refund policy, and whether the race weekend fits your training and travel recovery.
Best ways to use your matches
If your top matches cluster in one season, build backward from that window and compare race dates against tune-up races, long-run timing, and expected weather. If the list is spread across regions, start with travel friction: arrival time, climate shift, hotel availability, and how easy race morning will be.
When two races look close, send them to the comparison tool and look for the largest practical difference. A flatter course may matter less than a cooler morning; a verified historical BQ-rate metric still needs context from the field, course, and conditions; a downhill profile can be fast but punishing if you have not trained for sustained descent.
Find My Race FAQ
Should I pick only the highest BQ rate?
Not automatically. BMQR shows and uses BQ-rate metrics in this quiz only when the supporting historical result is verified. Use verified metrics with terrain, weather, field size, and travel logistics before deciding.
What if no race is a perfect match?
Treat the results as a ranked starting point. If the quiz returns fallback picks, loosen one preference at a time, usually region first, then terrain, so you can see which constraint is limiting the list.
How current are the matches?
Matches use the race data available in the BMQR directory. Because dates and registration details can change, always verify the official race site before purchasing travel or registration.
A simple decision path after the quiz
After the quiz returns matches, group them into three buckets: races you would register for immediately, races that are interesting but need more research, and races that only made the list because one filter was broad. This keeps the result from becoming another long directory. The strongest candidates should pass four checks: they fit your goal season, the terrain matches your training, travel is realistic, and the official race page confirms the date and marathon certification you need.
If a match fails one of those checks, do not force it. Adjust the quiz, open the season or region hub, or compare a nearby alternative. The purpose of the tool is to help you find a race you can execute well, not to crown a universal best marathon.
